Ukraine Warns of Russian Attack Amid Stockpiled Missiles and Drones
· Confirmed
In Short: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Oct. 6 that Russia is preparing a large-scale attack on Ukraine, urging citizens to take air raid alerts seriously.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Oct. 6 that Russia is preparing a large-scale attack on Ukraine, urging citizens to take air raid alerts seriously. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia has stockpiled up to 700 ballistic missiles and more than 6,200 attack drones for strikes against Ukraine.
Zelensky announced the first combat use of the FP-7 ballistic missile from Fire Point company, which was likely launched on the night of September 30 to October 1. The FP-7 was developed from the design of the 48N6 surface-to-air missile from the Russian S-400, using lighter materials.
Ukrainian intelligence also reported that Russia has around 115 Iskander-M ballistic missiles in its current stockpile and produces up to 65 per month. Additionally, Russia has temporarily suspended production of Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles due to unsatisfactory accuracy, redirecting production capacity toward conventional ballistic missiles.
According to Dailykos, Russia is preparing another mass missile strike on Ukraine, with Kyiv as the priority target. Around 50 Kh-101 cruise missiles and 35 Iskander-M, KN-23, and Zircon ballistic missiles are reportedly ready for deployment.
Zelensky urged Ukrainian citizens to take shelter when air raid alerts sound, citing updated intelligence reports about a massive strike planned by Moscow. He also called on Ukraine's allies, particularly in Europe and the U.S., to transfer any means of protection to the country if they can.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) poll published Oct. 6 showed that 62% of Ukrainians are ready to endure Russia's war for as long as necessary. KIIS said the results show that the attacks had not led to a decline in Ukrainians' willingness to endure the war as of Sept. 21.
In a separate development, two merchant ships were hit by drones around 112 kilometers off Bulgaria's coast on Oct. 6. Additionally, at least 13 people were killed and 104 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past day, with a Russian air strike damaging a hospital in Kryvyi Rih.
Ukraine’s 60th Mechanized Brigade remains in full control of the city center, as confirmed by Ukrainian commander Andriy Biletsky in a video response to Russian forces.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We're watching it very closely, hour by hour.” Zelensky wrote on Telegram, “Please, please, take care of yourself. Please respond to signals of missile danger.”
What this adds
The FP-7 ballistic missile was first announced for development on September 4, 2025, marking slightly less than one year and one month since its initial announcement. The first combat use result of the FP-7 is currently unknown, as is the specific target of the first Ukrainian ballistic missile launch.
Background
