PSG's Kvaratskhelia to Undergo ACL Surgery
· Confirmed
In Short: Paris Saint-Germain announced that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, an injury sustained during the team's 4-2 victory over Barcelona.

Kvaratskhelia was replaced on the hour mark at the Parc des Princes after landing awkwardly while making a tackle on Xavi Espart, looking in severe pain as he clutched his knee.
The Georgian international, who scored six goals at the World Cup, has been beset by leg muscle injuries at his previous club Barcelona and struggled with injuries last season.
PSG said in a statement, 'Having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo surgery in the coming days.'
Kvaratskhelia, who joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025, has featured 11 times for PSG this season and scored 29 goals in 91 appearances.
The club also confirmed that forward Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos will be absent for a 'few weeks' due to thigh injuries sustained during the match.
Kvaratskhelia's father, Badri Kvaratskhelia, confirmed his son had no interest in a move before the summer window even began, and Fabrizio Romano also pushed PSG’s adamancy that the player will remain at the club.
Former England midfielder Joe Cole praised Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Fabian Ruiz after the Spaniard struck late to sink Barcelona at the Parc des Princes.
Kvaratskhelia shared an emotional message about the setback, saying he had always prayed to finish matches without injury but admitted that his prayers did not prevent the setback.
The Georgia captain said, 'I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back. I won't let you down, I promise, I won't waste a second.'
Cristiano Ronaldo, Kvaratskhelia’s childhood idol, urged the winger to remain confident and determined as he prepares for surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Ronaldo said, 'The hardest battles in football are often the ones nobody sees. I know that feeling, Kvara. But never forget what brought you this far, and don’t let a difficult moment make you doubt how far you can go. Keep that fire on. Your best is still to come.'
