Vásconez noted, “In the face of death, there is a message of equality. Life is fragile, and we will all go through that moment.”

He added, “The Mass is the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary, and it is the greatest thing we Christians have here on earth.”

The Archdiocese of Guayaquil expressed solidarity with the Redemptorist family, relatives, and friends of Father Sánchez, stating, “The Archdiocese of Guayaquil joins in prayer for the eternal rest of his soul.”

Footage from the incident showed the crucifix falling on the priest as worshippers screamed and rushed to help him.

Father Vásconez emphasized the importance of safety measures, noting, “These are safety matters which incidents like this serve as a reminder to pay attention to such things.”

Father Sánchez was well-loved in Guayaquil and known for his piety. He had led a retreat in February that was attended by other priests.

The Catholic community is now reflecting on the incident and the broader implications of such tragic events.

While the incident has raised questions about divine punishment, Father Vásconez urged the faithful to focus on the message of equality and the fragility of life.

The Catholic faithful are mourning the loss of Father Sánchez, who was a beloved figure in the community.

The Archdiocese of Guayaquil has joined in prayer for the eternal rest of Father Sánchez’s soul, expressing solidarity with his family and friends.
