In Short: Brock Purdy's strong game helped the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Washington Commanders 23-17, making NFL history.

Brock Purdy made NFL history with his performance in the San Francisco 49ers' 23-17 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.

Purdy completed 21 of 29 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown, achieving a 111.9 passer rating for the game.

This performance allowed Purdy to reach the 1,500-pass-attempt minimum necessary to qualify for the NFL's all-time career passer rating leaderboard.

Despite his strong showing, Purdy acknowledged mistakes in the second half that allowed the Commanders to stay competitive.

"Obviously, offensively and for myself, like, in the second half it’s tough just to do what we did, three-and-outs, and I think there's some plays where I coulda been better for sure.... For our defense to do what they did, obviously I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true... for our defense to do what they did at the end, that was really impressive," Purdy told reporters postgame.

The 49ers' defense was crucial in the final moments, stopping the Commanders on fourth down from the San Francisco 17-yard line with two minutes remaining.

"The play he had to get us off the field in coverage... He's a great player. Happy he's on our side," said a teammate, praising the defensive effort.

The victory improves San Francisco to 6-0 and gives the 49ers their 56th Monday Night Football win, breaking their tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most in NFL history.

With 11 games remaining, the 49ers remain among the league's three unbeaten teams alongside Kansas City and Minnesota.

Purdy now sits atop the NFL's all-time career passer rating leaderboard with a 105.6 passer rating, ahead of other star quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes.

The Commanders suffered another blow with an injury to a key player, leaving them awaiting more information on the extent of the injury.

"The San Francisco 49ers remain undefeated after holding off the Washington Commanders 23-17 on Monday Night Football at Levi's® Stadium," the team announced.
