"I just had bottom surgery in December, which was amazing, and I love it so much," Schafer told Elle, referring to the gender-affirming operation that alters a person’s genitals to align with their gender identity.

Schafer, who transitioned to female as a teenager, emphasized her journey towards aligning her body with her gender identity.

"For a long time I’ve embraced the gender-expansive part of myself, and I really wanted to try to make that previous body work, because I thought there was something really cool and bada– about it," Schafer said.

"Ultimately, the Hollywood star decided that vaginoplasty was the best option for her," she added.

Schafer also addressed the negativity she faced after revealing her surgery, writing on X, "I have people saying I ruined my body and I ruined my life."

"Just wanna say it's so brave of her to speak on this," a singer told Billboard, praising Schafer's courage.

"Bottom surgery,” also known as genitourinary reconstruction surgery, describes a wide range of gender-affirming procedures performed on the genitals.

"Genital reconstruction surgery is typically reserved for adults," Dr. Safer, executive director of the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery, told Billboard.

"It saved my life and then there’s people who are like, ‘This saved your life, but you ruined everything,'" Schafer said, addressing the misconceptions around the procedures.

"My dad’s an architect, he used to show me it/ When he would drive me to the psychiatry/ Again and again, didn’t come back a man," Schafer sang on a track, reflecting on her journey.
