Miley Cyrus paid an emotional tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton, during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 16. Cyrus, 33, performed an emotional rendition of Parton’s 1973 hit song 'Jolene,' with an image of Parton appearing on stage behind her.

Cyrus reflected on her special bond with Parton, who died in August at the age of 80. She said, 'Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart.'

During the concert, Cyrus shared that Parton had opened her show with the Hannah Montana theme song, 'The Best of Both Worlds,' and had told the audience that Cyrus was watching the show with them. Cyrus also mentioned that the only time she saw Parton perform live was at the Hollywood Bowl.

Cyrus recalled a recent conversation with Parton, saying, 'What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have.'

Cyrus also held a heart-shaped framed photo of Parton during the concert, further honoring her godmother. She expressed her deep connection with Parton, noting that they had a special bond that went beyond their public personas.

In a recent interview, Cyrus reflected on the last time she spoke with Parton before her passing. She said, 'The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.'

Cyrus also shared that Parton had become her godmother when she was born in 1992, and that Parton had appeared as Aunt Dolly on 'Hannah Montana.' She added, 'Every Tuesday about this time, before the sun came up and the world was still asleep, she and I, for many years, had our coffee together over the phone.'

Cyrus concluded her tribute by saying, 'The mark she left on music, our culture, and the human spirit is greater than any of us could ever hope to leave behind.'

What this adds

Cyrus also mentioned that Parton had announced her presence to the audience, much to Cyrus' embarrassment, and that she had asked Parton to let her enjoy one of her concerts as a regular fan.
