Jamal Osman, the Somali-born vice president of the Minneapolis City Council, told Fox News that the raid felt like an attack on the Somali community.

Osman said, 'Somalis — we all feel attacked by President Trump.' He added, 'We have seen the threats, the horrific language he uses against my community. It's unacceptable, and we're hoping this could stop.'

The raid comes after months of accusations from President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly targeted Omar with inflammatory rhetoric.

Trump has made no shortage of racist claims about the Somali community, urging Minnesotans to 'fight back' against their Somali neighbors and claiming they have been 'robbed.'

In a statement, Omar said, 'This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.'

The investigation is reportedly examining the immigration forms filled out by Omar's father and the marriage that critics claim was part of an immigration scheme.

Some Somali Americans, however, were not surprised by the raid. A 22-year-old Somali American woman told Fox News, 'They've been talking about her in a negative manner. The government has been constantly questioning her immigration status and her naturalization in the country. So it was bound to happen for them to investigate her soon enough.'

The raid has also drawn criticism from other politicians and community leaders, who argue that it is an abuse of power.

Rep. Omar's office has stated that she has done nothing wrong and that no president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate political enemies.

The raid comes amid a broader context of increased federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota, which has been a source of tension for the Somali community.
