Falcons QB Penix on Track to Start vs. Bears

Confirmed

Sports Desk

In Short: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is expected to start against the Chicago Bears if he avoids any setbacks this week.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is on track to start against the Chicago Bears in Week 6, provided he does not experience any setbacks during the week.

Penix, who has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 719 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception when healthy, is dealing with a rib injury.

Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Penix will practice in a limited fashion and should start against the Bears if there are no issues.

Stefanski noted, 'With any injury like this, you want to make sure as they move around and how they're feeling -- it could be all, some, none. We shall see.'

Penix took a significant hit during the Falcons' recent loss to the Baltimore Ravens and briefly left the game, but returned for one play before the overtime switch.

The Falcons' offense struggled without Penix and Tua Tagovailoa at the start of the season, scoring just 16 points in two games.

However, with Penix back, the Falcons have since scored a combined 80 points in their last two road games against the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.

Chicago Bears coach Kevin Stefanski said, 'Michael Penix Jr. should start this weekend against the Bears as long as everything goes accordingly.'

The Bears' game plan will need to adjust based on whether Penix or Tagovailoa is on the field, as both quarterbacks present different challenges.

While there are still hurdles to clear, Stefanski remains optimistic about Penix's availability for the Week 6 matchup.

The Falcons will monitor Penix's progress closely as he practices this week to ensure he is ready for the game against the Bears.
