Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Kill at Least Two, Wound Over 20 in Kyiv
Confirmed
In Short: Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv killed at least two people and injured over 20, according to reports from the BBC (United Kingdom) and Ukrinform (Ukraine).

Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv killed at least two people and injured over 20, according to reports from the BBC (United Kingdom) and Ukrinform (Ukraine). The BBC reported that Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people were killed and 21 injured in the attack on an apartment block late on Tuesday.
Al Jazeera (Qatar) reported that the attack killed nine people and wounded 33 others, with fires breaking out across Kyiv and power outages reported in some areas. The discrepancy in casualty figures between the BBC and Al Jazeera highlights the varying accounts of the incident.
The attacks, which included 27 ballistic missiles and only one intercepted by Ukraine’s Patriot system, targeted facilities sustaining the war effort, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine has run out of interceptor missiles for its US Patriot air defense systems.
In Solomianskyi, falling debris damaged a five-story residential building and sparked a fire, leading to the evacuation of 35 people from the upper floors. Two people died and eight were injured, including two children. In Darnytskyi, seven people were killed and 14 injured as the attack caused fires and damaged homes, vehicles, and an administrative building.
Ukraine responded to the Russian attacks by striking three Russian oil refineries’ infrastructure in the Bashkortostan region, nearly 1,600km from the border, and sinking a sanctioned Russian container ship, Yanina, in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
The Russian and Ukrainian strikes killed at least 16 people over the last 24 hours, according to Arabnews (Saudi Arabia). This was the second major attack on Kyiv this week, with fighting raging along about 1,200km of front line.
Despite the varying casualty figures, both the BBC and Al Jazeera agree that Russian attacks on Kyiv killed at least two people and injured over 20, with fires breaking out and power outages reported in the city.
