NFL Suspends Dre Greenlaw One Game for Headbutting Incident
Confirmed
In Short: The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game after he headbutted Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones during a sideline confrontation.

The NFL announced on Monday that Greenlaw will miss the 49ers' Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders due to unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
During the second quarter of the 49ers' 32-29 victory, Greenlaw was ejected after headbutting Jones, who was not wearing a helmet, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to acts contrary to sportsmanship.
The incident occurred after Greenlaw drew a flag for a late hit on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold on the Seattle sideline and was confronted by several Seahawks players, including Jones.
Greenlaw had three tackles before being disqualified from the game, and the league noted that his actions were a violation of the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.
Greenlaw has a history of ejections and suspensions, including a one-game ban last year while with the Denver Broncos and another for unsportsmanlike conduct in 2022.
In five games this season, Greenlaw has recorded 37 tackles and one forced fumble.
The NFL Players’ Association allows Greenlaw to appeal the suspension, and sources told ESPN that he is planning to do so.
The appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera, or James Thrash, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA.
Greenlaw has eight career unnecessary roughness penalties and four personal-foul facemask penalties in 77 games.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan praised Greenlaw's performance against the Broncos but acknowledged the need for better behavior in confrontational situations.
What this adds
Greenlaw's suspension is the latest in a series of disciplinary actions against him, highlighting ongoing issues with his conduct on the field.
