Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 to Premiere March 2027 With Guest Stars Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt
Confirmed
In Short: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will return for its final season on Paramount+ in March 2027, featuring guest stars Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt.
The series, which premiered in January, follows a group of young cadets at Starfleet Academy in San Francisco, partly aboard the docked USS Athena.
According to Awards Radar, the show's co-creator and co-producer Alex Kurtzman emphasized the accessibility of the series, stating, 'You don’t have to have watched other Star Trek shows before... You will feel welcomed in.'
The series is set in the 32nd century, post-Discovery Season 5, as the Federation rebuilds after The Burn, marking the Academy’s reopening after over a century of closure.
Bill Nighy will play Nahla's estranged father, Nyk Ake, and Rosemarie DeWitt will play Tamira's mother, Laytha Sadal, the First Lady of Betazed.
The show also stars Kerric Brooks, George Hawkins, Gina Yashere, Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, Brit Marling, Ruaridh Aldington, and Stephen Colbert.
At New York Comic Con 2026, it was announced that a new cadet will join the cast for the final season.
The panel also revealed that the series will be returning soon, with a Paramount+ premiere in March; it will be the show's final season, as Strange New Worlds is also ending next year.
Variety reported earlier this year that the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be its last, so it won't have the legs of many other Star Trek shows.
The cast, joined by series showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, announced the Season 2 air date: March 2027.
The series will be the first time in a decade that no new Star Trek TV projects are in production.
The panel began with the series co-showrunners acknowledging the attention their show received from the federal government, specifically deputy White House chief of staff Stephen Miller, who derided the Star Trek series and declared, 'It’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise. Step 1: Reconcile with @WilliamShatner and give him total creative control.'
