Garrel will portray John Elkann, who was taken under the wing of Marchionne to learn the art of command after being burdened with the family legacy.
The project reunites Bellocchio with longtime collaborators, including production designer Andrea Castorina, costume designer Daria Calvelli, and editor Francesca Calvelli.
'Falcon' is produced by Kavac Film, Rai Cinema, with Emotion Network in collaboration with STLA Europe, and is inspired by Marchionne's journey in saving Fiat from bankruptcy and later taking over Chrysler.
The film's title is inspired by Marchionne's preference for traveling on a Falcon business jet.
Bellocchio, known for his work on films such as 'The Traitor,' 'Exterior Night,' and 'Kidnapped,' is considered one of Italy's greatest living directors.
Marchionne, who died in 2018 at 66, became famous for merging Fiat and Chrysler to create the seventh-largest vehicle manufacturer in the world.
Rai Cinema International Distribution has boarded sales on 'Falcon,' which is currently filming in Toronto.
