Dodgers Reach NLCS, Brewers Eye Revenge
Developing
In Short: The Los Angeles Dodgers advanced to the National League Championship Series after defeating the Atlanta Braves, while the Milwaukee Brewers look to avenge last year's loss to the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers secured their spot in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) with a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 of the National League Division Series (NLDS).
In the final game of the day, the San Diego Padres faced the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park, hoping to avoid elimination.
The Brewers, who were swept by the Dodgers in last year's NLCS, are now set to face their rivals again. During the 2025 NLCS, the Brewers managed to score only four runs in the four-game series.
The Brewers have since improved, and their young core has developed into one of the best teams in baseball. They now aim to capitalize on this progress and challenge the Dodgers.
The Dodgers, who were the reigning back-to-back champions, have seen their star players slow down slightly this year. This presents an opportunity for the Brewers to turn the tables.
The Brewers' offensive strategy, which struggled against the Dodgers last year, will be crucial in this rematch. If they can execute effectively, they may be able to outperform the Dodgers.
Team temperatures, based on Bill James' formula, indicate the current form of each team. The Brewers are looking to capitalize on their hot streak to upset the Dodgers.
What this adds
The Brewers' offensive performance in the upcoming NLCS will be closely watched to see if they can improve upon their previous struggles against the Dodgers.
What's still developing
- Hopefully you got to witness it -- the Dodgers’ pennant-clinching NLCS Game 4 win that completed their sweep of the Brewers -- whether live in person or somewhere on a monitor.
- The following players have three-HR games in their postseason careers: Babe Ruth (twice), Bob Robertson, Reggie Jackson, George Brett, Adam Kennedy, Adrian Beltré, Albert Pujols, Pablo Sandoval, Jose Altuve, Kiké Hernández and Chris Taylor.
- Despite having a very quiet first three games of the series, Ohtani was named NLCS MVP after Game 4.
- In a series of heartbreaks for the Padres, that's right up there.
- Note: Matchup odds come from Bradford Doolittle's formula using power ratings as the basis for 10,000 simulations to determine the most likely outcomes.
- Can an improved version of the same style of offense that faltered against the Dodgers a year ago finally get the Brewers over the top?
- If they can do that, they can send the Dodgers packing.
- The 11 swinging strikes he recorded in Game 1 matched his third lowest of the season (and one of the lower ones was his abbreviated three-inning start at regular season's end).
