Cheapest Googlebook Model Bootlooping for Some Users
Developing
In Short: Some early users of the Acer Googlebook 14, the cheapest and only convertible model among the five Googlebooks launched recently, are encountering a bootloop problem.
At least four users have reported this issue on Reddit, indicating it is not an isolated incident.
Users have attempted to resolve the problem by following steps such as unlocking and re-locking the bootloader, but these efforts have not been successful.
Googler Mishaal Rahman suggested that users try unplugging all USB devices from their laptops as a potential fix.
The Acer Googlebook 14, priced at $900, has been on the market for less than a week, and sales are expected to be modest given the price point and the device's recent release.
What's still developing
- Unfortunately, some early adopters are reporting that their machines are bootlooping.
- There are five Googlebooks available at launch, with the Acer Googlebook 14 being both the cheapest model and the only convertible.
- That is, the users report that their machine shows an “Updating” screen for a few seconds, restarts, then displays the same “Updating” screen before restarting and continuing the cycle indefinitely.
- The laptop should then restart again, and users are told to choose “boot from internal disk.” Unfortunately, it seems like these steps haven’t worked for users.
- Users are then told to unlock the bootloader via Advanced > Unlock bootloader, then re-lock it after the device boots up again.
