Austria's trade balance surpassed forecasts in July, recording a positive €268 million, according to recent data.

The positive trade balance comes as other economic indicators show mixed performance. The US Dollar, for instance, eased from near an 18-month high on profit-taking, despite hawkish FOMC minutes and escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In the currency markets, the USD/JPY pair saw volatility, initially trading below 158.00 amid speculation of Japanese authorities stepping in to support the yen, before rising back above 158.00 in the early European morning.

Gold also struggled to capitalize on a modest uptick, trading below $4,150 in the Asian session, reflecting broader market uncertainties.

Meanwhile, the AUD/USD pair consolidated above 0.6950 in the Asian session, as traders assessed developments in the Middle East crisis.

Altcoins mirrored Bitcoin's ranging action, with Ethereum trading sideways above $2,700 and Ripple hovering around the pivotal $1.50 level.

What this adds

The report adds that Brazil's government revised its trade surplus forecast downward by more than $5 billion, despite September's trade balance exceeding expectations.

Background

Despite the positive economic indicators, gold struggled to capitalize on the uptick, trading near its lowest level since August 4, around the $4,100 neighborhood.
