Anthropic unveils Haiku 5.5, its third AI model in a month ahead of planned IPO
Confirmed
In Short: Anthropic has unveiled Claude Haiku 5.5, a new AI model aimed at high-volume tasks such as classification, summarization, and customer support, ahead of its planned $2 trillion IPO.

The new model, priced at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens, is designed to be more cost-effective than its predecessor, Haiku 4.5, which costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.
In evaluations, Haiku 5.5 scored 72.4% on the offline subset of OSWorld 2.1, compared to 15.7% for Haiku 4.5, indicating significant improvements.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for AI companies to slow the development of increasingly powerful models, but the company is now expanding its lineup with Haiku 5.5, positioning itself for a potential $2 trillion valuation.
The model's launch comes after rapid revenue growth and heavy spending on computing infrastructure, with Anthropic reporting a net loss of $42 billion in 2025 but ending the year with $20.28 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments.
Haiku 5.5 is also the first Haiku model to support adjustable effort settings, making it suitable for speed-sensitive workflows like live customer support and browser use.
Anthropic has also added cybersecurity controls to Haiku 5.5, expanding its smaller-model lineup as competition with OpenAI and Google intensifies.
The new model is positioned to become a key player in the AI industry, with the market expecting its IPO valuation to reach $2 trillion, far higher than its valuation level of about $96.5 billion in May.
Anthropic's IPO prospectus reveals explosive 2025 revenue of $4.59 billion, driven by enterprise adoption of its Claude model, yet operating losses exceed $8 billion.
Looking ahead, Anthropic plans to commit $518 billion to cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations in the coming years, signaling its aggressive approach to AI development and market expansion.
The sources have not established a specific timeline for when Haiku 5.5 will be available to the public, nor have they provided details on the exact improvements in cybersecurity controls.
