In Short: The new photo picker in Android 13 also includes APIs for developers to integrate these features into their apps, potentially enhancing user experience.

Google is reportedly working on adding basic editing features to the Android Photo Picker, according to reports from Android Authority and Android Police.

Android Authority found evidence of new editing tools in the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 code, suggesting that users will soon be able to make basic edits directly within the Photo Picker interface.

The new media editor, while not yet visible in the user interface, includes strings for basic editing functionalities such as cropping and discarding edits.

According to Android Authority, the cropping interface will feature buttons to cancel the crop, return to the main edit menu, or apply the crop.

Android Police noted that the new photo picker in Android 13 is designed to be more like Apple's file selection menus on the iPhone, allowing users to select photos without granting third-party apps access to the entire gallery.

Android Police emphasized the importance of developers focusing on large screen layouts and improving their apps for Android 13.

Despite the promising updates, many of these changes are not yet live, and users and developers will have to wait for further updates.

Android Authority and Android Police both agree that the new photo picker and its associated editing tools could be a significant improvement for Android users.

The addition of basic editing tools directly within the Photo Picker could streamline the photo selection and sharing process for users, making it more convenient and efficient.
