Actor Sonali Kulkarni urged audiences to cultivate a balanced perspective in film criticism during an event at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI). Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kulkarni highlighted the tendency in today’s digital culture to either lavish hyperbolic praise or launch harsh, personal criticism that can deeply wound artists.
The ceremony also marked the first presentation of the Late Vikram Gokhale Memorial Award to Kulkarni, recognizing her distinguished artistic journey. Kulkarni expressed her gratitude, saying, 'I accept this award named after Vikram Kaka with immense gratitude. He played my father in the film Mukta. Receiving an award in the name of a father figure, in the presence of my own father today, makes this moment deeply special for me.'
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Prakash Magdum, director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), and festival organizers Jay Bhosale and Virendra Chitrav.
Kulkarni also advised the younger generation to listen to their inner voice and firmly ground themselves in the field they are passionate about when choosing career paths.
