Tab, a new personal AI assistant, announced its emergence from stealth on Tuesday with a $300 million valuation. The company, which did not disclose specific funding details, joins the growing trend of consumer AI assistants like Instinct and Meta’s Muse.
According to TechCrunch, users can interact with Tab via text messages on platforms like iMessage or WhatsApp. The assistant helps with tasks such as ordering groceries, booking travel, and even finding birthday presents.
Tab’s CEO, Amdani, emphasized the assistant’s capabilities in an interview with TechCrunch. 'The bills, the bookings, the calls you keep putting off, remembering the people you love. It has its own phone number, computer, and wallet, so it doesn’t tell you how to do those things. It does then,' Amdani explained.
Amdani highlighted the broader context of the AI race, stating, 'Everyone is racing to make AI more capable.' He also drew a parallel to the past, saying, 'Your grandparents had a family doctor, a banker, someone who knew them and looked out for them.'
The CEO further noted, 'You text it like you’d text someone you trust and it takes the weight off.' However, he acknowledged the complexity of integrating such technology into daily life, posing the question, 'We think the harder question is whether you should let it in.'
Tab prioritizes user trust by ensuring that data is never used to train AI and that financial information is securely stored in a vault inaccessible to the company. 'Nothing that can be undone happens without your ‘yes,’' Amdani assured potential users.
