Stevie Nicks Inspires 'Hunger Games' Prequel Fashion
Confirmed
In Short: Mckenna Grace revealed that Stevie Nicks' iconic style inspired the wardrobe of her character, Maysilee Donner.

Mckenna Grace revealed that Stevie Nicks' iconic style inspired the wardrobe of her character, Maysilee Donner, in 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.' Grace explained that the film's fashion draws heavily from the 1960s and 1970s, contrasting with the more contemporary styles seen in the original Hunger Games movies.
During a Paris event, Grace noted, 'It’s cool because you’re not only seeing younger versions of these characters, but what Panem and the Districts would have looked like at that time period.' She added, 'It was very ’60s, ’70s-inspired.'
Costume designer Bina Daigeler worked closely with Grace to ensure the costumes reflected the era's fashion. Grace said, 'Sunrise on the Reaping, at least on all the mood boards, there was Stevie Nicks.'
The film's fashion aims to distinguish it from other entries in the franchise. Grace noted, 'Each of the Hunger Games have such a specific time period for fashion.'
Joseph Zada, who plays a younger version of Haymitch Abernathy, also discussed the costumes. He said, 'My first outfit that I have is a shirt that's made out of handkerchiefs and other different materials.' Zada added, 'You can't exactly run in those things,' referring to the practicality of the costumes.
Zada further explained, 'This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.'
Grace emphasized the importance of the fashion in setting the tone for the film. She said, 'I really wanted the colors to be a lot more like darker greens and browns.'
The film, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set to release on November 20, 2026, and will feature Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, a role previously played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Grace, known for her roles in 'The Haunting of Hill House' and 'The Handmaid's Tale,' highlighted the significance of the fashion in establishing the film's unique aesthetic.
Stevie Nicks, a solo artist and member of Fleetwood Mac, has had multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits, including 'Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around' with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which peaked at No. 2 in 1981.
