In Short: Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion house known for its iconic style, has collaborated with G.H.

Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion house known for its iconic style, has collaborated with G.H. Bass to introduce a new line of penny loafers. The shoes feature a unique design element: a silver coin embedded in the shoe, reminiscent of the traditional penny in penny loafers.

The coin, which is actually silver in color and bears the Karl Lagerfeld autograph logo, adds a distinctive touch to the slip-on shoes. Available in polished black, black-and-white, and black tone-on-tone Karl Lagerfeld Icon motifs, the loafers are a nod to the brand's rich heritage and its current design direction.

Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, emphasized the importance of footwear in the brand's portfolio. 'Footwear has been an important part of our business for many years,' he told WWD. 'This collaboration gives us an opportunity to build on that strength and broaden the category through the loafer, working with a brand that has real authority in this space.'

Hun Kim, the brand's current design director, noted the resurgence of preppy styles, including polo shirts, rugby shirts, and loafers. 'For a lot of young people, it’s something brand new,' Kim said of the shoes. 'This collaboration allows us to tap into that trend while maintaining Karl Lagerfeld's unique aesthetic.'

The Karl Lagerfeld x G.H. Bass collection is available in Karl Lagerfeld stores, select wholesale accounts, and both brands' online boutiques. The late German designer Karl Lagerfeld was known for his custom Massaro boots, but the brand's current direction reflects a keen sense of contemporary trends.

The collaboration between Karl Lagerfeld and G.H. Bass represents a strategic move to expand the brand's footwear offerings and appeal to a younger demographic while staying true to its iconic style.
