Bishop Munilla of Bilbao highlighted five reasons to pray the rosary daily in October, emphasizing its importance in various Marian apparitions.

According to Munilla, the Virgin Mary first requested the rosary in 1208, when she asked St. Dominic of Guzmán to pray it against the Cathars.

In 1877, during an apparition in Gietrzwałd, Poland, the Virgin directly instructed the faithful to pray the rosary every day.

Munilla also noted the 1917 apparitions in Fátima, where the Blessed Virgin Mary repeatedly urged the faithful to pray the rosary for peace and the end of war.

The bishop referenced the 1980 apparitions in Cuapa, Nicaragua, and the 1983-1990 apparitions in San Nicolás, Argentina, where the Virgin appeared as Our Lady of the Rosary.

Munilla also mentioned Medjugorje, where the Church has not ruled on the supernatural nature of the apparitions but has approved the religious and pastoral experience.

He emphasized that the rosary, while Marian in form, is Christocentric and a summary of the Gospel.

Sister Lucia, the visionary of Fátima, explained that daily Mass and Communion were not feasible for everyone, but the rosary is accessible to all.

Bishop Munilla concluded by quoting John Bosco, who said the rosary is essential for the soul's health, just as bread is for the body.

Munilla added that the rosary helps guard the heart, sustains faith, hope, and charity, and fits into any state of life, at any time, and in any place.

What this adds

The report adds Bishop Munilla's emphasis on the rosary's accessibility and its role in spiritual combat, as well as its Christocentric nature.
