Apple and LG are reportedly collaborating to launch a range of smart home devices, including a video doorbell, smart lock, and thermostat, according to Android Authority and TechCrunch.

The partnership aims to create a tightly integrated home ecosystem for consumers already using Apple devices like iPhones and HomePods.

LG will manufacture and support the devices, which will carry the LG brand rather than an Apple logo.

The products are designed to integrate with Apple’s upcoming smart home hub, scheduled to launch on October 13.

The collaboration includes a smart doorbell, smart thermostat, and smart deadbolt lock, alongside indoor and outdoor security cameras and a floodlight camera.

Apple’s smart home ambitions are expanding beyond its current offerings, with the company reportedly helping shape the designs, features, and engineering of these new products.

LG already has experience working with Apple, making the reported collaboration less unexpected.

The partnership could signal Apple’s more ambitious attempt to make the home a larger part of its product strategy.

Apple’s approach allows established hardware companies like LG to produce compatible devices, rather than manufacturing and selling every accessory itself.

The new products could be seen as a competitive move against Amazon’s smart home offerings, which include similar products like Ring home security cameras.

TechCrunch reached out to Apple for more information but did not receive a response.

The smart lock is also said to include Ultra Wideband support for proximity-based unlocking.

What this adds

The partnership brings an old Apple rumor full circle, as the company has never launched its own first-party video doorbell.

Documents submitted by LG to the Federal Communications Commission and UL Solutions reveal details of the devices, although the filings do not name Apple.
