83-Year-Old Held for Shooting Grandson Over Property Dispute

In Short: Motiram Marathe, an 83-year-old man from Lonavala, was arrested for allegedly shooting his 33-year-old grandson, Abhay, over a property dispute in Bhushi village.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday when Abhay was cleaning his grandfather's gun, which led to a fatal accident, though the family's account is under scrutiny.
Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill stated that Motiram had a valid license for a 12-bore gun used for hunting. However, Gill also revealed that the family had been involved in a property dispute, with Motiram wanting to sell their land and distribute the proceeds among family members, while Abhay had different plans for the land's development.
Police are now investigating the sequence of events following the shooting and the family's attempts to cover up the crime.
Lonavala city police are probing the property dispute and the efforts to destroy evidence, according to inspector Pramod Kshirsagar of the local crime branch.
Abhay's father, Manik Marathe, is a former Lonavala municipal council corporator.
