Jessica Chastain's 'The Savant' Set for 2027 Release After Delay
Confirmed
In Short: Jessica Chastain's political thriller series 'The Savant' has been rescheduled for a spring 2027 release after being shelved following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Jessica Chastain's political thriller series 'The Savant' is set for a spring 2027 release after being shelved following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Created by Melissa James Gibson, the series stars Chastain as Jodi Goodwin, an undercover investigator who infiltrates online hate groups to prevent domestic terrorism.
Apple TV initially planned to release 'The Savant' in September 2025 but postponed it days before its premiere due to the assassination.
Chastain expressed disagreement with the decision, stating on social media, 'I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been incredible collaborators and I deeply respect their team. That said, I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant.'
The series was pulled from the schedule after Apple TV declined to specify the reason for the delay, simply stating, 'We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.'
Chastain told Variety, 'I really had to go on record that I thought [the postponement] was a mistake. I learned that it’s okay to be honest.'
The show's storyline includes themes of extremist groups and acts of violence, which were considered potentially triggering following Kirk's assassination.
Despite the delay, Chastain has continued to work with Apple on other projects, including 'The Dealer' with Adam Driver and 'The Off Weeks' alongside Ben Stiller.
The Savant stars Chastain, Nnamdi Asomugha, Pablo Schreiber, and others, with Gibson, Chastain, Matthew Heineman, David Levine, Garrett Kemble, Kelly Carmichael, and Alan Poul as executive producers.
The series is based on a 2019 Cosmopolitan article about preventing mass shootings and aims to honor the heroes who work to stop violence before it happens.
Chastain told Entertainment Weekly, 'The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever.'
What this adds
The series was originally set to premiere in September 2025 but was pulled from the schedule and delayed indefinitely three days beforehand, following Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Despite the drama it may have caused, Chastain learned that 'it’s okay to be honest' in a kind and respectful way.

What's confirmed
- Apple TV declined to specify the reason for The Savant ’s postponement at the time, simply relaying to Entertainment Weekly via a spokesperson, “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.” EW has reached out to a representative from the streamer regarding the resumed release plan.
- The star had expressed disagreement with Apple TV’s decision to postpone the series Jessica Chastain’s political thriller series “The Savant” is coming off the shelf at Apple TV, less than a year after its release was postponed indefinitely in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
- In addition to Chastain, “The Savant” stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste, with Pablo Schreiber appearing as a guest star.
- Created by Melissa James Gibson and inspired by a 2019 Cosmopolitan article entitled 'Is It Possible To Stop A Mass Shooting Before It Happens?', The Savant stars Jessica Chastain as Jodi Goodwin, an undercover investigator with the Anti-Hate Alliance who infiltrates online hate groups in a bid to prevent acts of domestic terrorism before attacks are carried out.
- “I felt responsible to a lot of people, to all of the actors in the series… to the real person I played, I felt accountability to her because of the sacrifices that she’s made and the difficult things she’s done to keep us all safe,” Chastain said in an interview with Porter published on Monday.
- “The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever,” she wrote.
- "After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date."
What's still developing
- “In the last five years since we’ve been making the show, we’ve seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States: the kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the January 6th attack on the Capitol; the assassination attempts on President Trump; the political assassinations of Democratic representatives in Minnesota; the attack on Speaker Pelosi’s husband; the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk; the recent shooting at an ABC affiliate station in California; and over 300 school shootings across this country,” she said.
- In “The Savant,” Chastain (who also serves as an executive producer) plays Jodi Goodwin, a veteran, wife and mother whose job is to infiltrate online forums in which white supremacists gather and sometimes plan domestic terror attacks.
- Nevertheless, here we are a year later, and The Savant has still not come out.
- Of course, Apple could decide to once again delay the release when we get closer to springtime.
- The easiest way to get into HomeKit and Apple smart home tech.
- The limited series stars and is executive produced by Academy, SAG, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award winner Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “The Good Nurse”).
- Now, at long last, Deadline is reporting that the streamer has finally confirmed plans to release The Savant in 2027, with a prospective Spring drop coming just in time for Emmys consideration.
- Given the series' focus on domestic extremism, inclusion of some potentially triggering imagery involving sniper attacks, and depiction of the far-right, it was deemed inappropriate for release last September, much to star Chastain's chagrin.
- Until we have a confirmed release date though, you can hear Chastain and co-star Nnamdi Asomugha talking all things The Savant on the September 29, 2025 edition of the Pilot TV Podcast.
- The Savant has returned to Apple TV’s slate, and Jessica Chastain is commenting on the obligation she felt when the series’ fate was in limbo after it was pulled from the 2025 calendar.
- “While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon.” Consistent with Deadline’s recent report, Chastain confirmed to Porter that the show will in fact see the light of day and premiere on Apple TV in spring 2027.
- Despite having all the components of an exciting show, The Savant 's road to release has been overly long.
