India and West Indies Fined for Slow Over Rates in Final ODI
Confirmed
In Short: India were fined 20% of their match fee, while West Indies received a 10% fine after being found to be four and two overs short of their required over-rates, respectively.

India and West Indies were fined for maintaining slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their series in New Chandigarh on Saturday, according to the ICC website.
Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions, with India receiving a 20% fine of their match fee and West Indies a 10% fine.
Both teams entered the match with different stakes: India, already leading the series 2-0, and West Indies, looking to salvage some pride after conceding the series.
West Indies, led by Shai Hope's unbeaten 162, achieved a historic victory by chasing down a target of 352, their highest successful run chase in men's ODIs.
Despite the victory, West Indies captain Shai Hope and India captain Shubman Gill both pleaded guilty to the charges, avoiding formal hearings.
The ICC penalizes teams under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which imposes a five percent fine for each over a team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
The teams will now shift their focus to a five-match T20I series, which begins in Lucknow on October 6.
India's Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series, having scored 334 runs across the three matches, including an unbeaten 223 in the second ODI.
The match in New Chandigarh lasted over nine hours, with former India head coach Ravi Shastri and former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik highlighting the length of the game.
India's KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 162, pushing India to a total of 351/7, while Rohit Sharma contributed a 92.
The slow over-rate charges were brought by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Virender Sharma.
What this adds
The penalties came despite India winning the three-match ODI series 2-1.
It was the first time since December 2019 that India had lost an ODI match at home against the West Indies.
