AppleTV has renewed 'Imperfect Women' for a second season, focusing on Kerry Washington's character Eleanor, the network announced. The series, which premiered in March 2026, will take a spinoff approach, delving deeper into Eleanor's story.
The first season, based on Araminta Hall's novel, revolved around three best friends—Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy—each played by Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara, respectively. The show's murder mystery storyline broke open secrets hidden by these women.
Washington expressed her excitement about returning to the role of Eleanor, stating, 'We were thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonated with audiences around the world, and I’m so excited to step back into Eleanor’s shoes.'
Apple TV’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, said, 'After a wildly entertaining first season, driven by the performances of Kerry, Lizzie and Kate, we jumped at the opportunity to expand the world of Imperfect Women through Kerry’s fan favorite character of Eleanor.'
The new season will follow Eleanor as she returns to her hometown of Martha’s Vineyard, where secrets and scandals threaten to upend her past. Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Eleanor’s brother, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who plays their mother, are expected to return.
While there are no plans for Moss’ Mary and Kinnaman’s Robert to be in the second installment, the series may address the ambiguous glance between Mary and Robert at the end of the finale.
The series explores the complex nature of female friendships and the societal pressure on women to be perfect. Each episode highlights the individual struggles and decisions of the characters, creating a slow-burn narrative.
The premiere date for the second season has not been announced, but fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of Eleanor's story.
What this adds
The new season will focus on Eleanor's return to Martha's Vineyard, exploring her past and the secrets hidden there.
The series will not follow the same three-friend structure as the first season, instead building an original story around Eleanor.
No premiere date has been set for the second season.
