Today’s youth would like to give back modernity, thank you very much

In Short: The centre-right Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 out of 395 seats in Morocco's House of Representatives.

The PAM's national coordinator, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, celebrated the party's victory, attributing it to 18 years of hard work and citizens' trust. She noted that the PAM did not achieve a landslide victory despite deploying significant resources.
Political scientist Mohamed Tozy described the results as 'predictable,' suggesting that socioeconomic frustrations among the youth contributed to the outcome despite the kingdom's economic growth and infrastructure projects.
El Mansouri emphasized the PAM's openness to coalition talks, stating, 'There is no party with which we refuse to sit down.' However, she clarified that the party had not yet begun formal discussions on forming a new coalition.
The National Rally of Independents (RNI), which leads the current coalition, secured 66 seats, placing second in the election.
The election results reflect a nuanced political landscape in Morocco, where economic progress coexists with persistent social and economic challenges, particularly among the youth.
What this adds
The socioeconomic frustrations among the youth, highlighted by the crisis, add context to the election results, indicating that economic growth alone may not address underlying issues.

What's still developing
- "Today, we celebrate the valuable trust citizens have placed in us, a trust born of 18 years of relentless struggle," said Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, the PAM's national coordinator, at a news conference.
- The crisis highlighted socioeconomic frustrations among the youth, even as the kingdom records economic growth and is ramping up major infrastructure projects as it prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
- On Thursday, El Mansouri said it would be a "great honour".
