Marc Marquez secured a victory in the Japanese Grand Prix, cutting Jorge Martin's lead in the MotoGP championship to just two points. Marquez's win came after a tough race where he had to bide his time before overtaking Martin on the 11th lap.

Marquez's performance in Japan was particularly impressive as he also won the Sprint MotoGP Jepang the day before, marking his seventh Saturday victory of the season and extending his record to 22 MotoGP Sprint wins.

The race was marked by intense competition, with Marquez controlling the lead after overtaking Martin into the opening corner. However, the race was not without drama, as Alex Marquez, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Pedro Acosta were eliminated in a collision at Turn 3 on the opening lap.

Marquez's strategy of waiting for the right moment to overtake Martin paid off. He said, "The race was tough, especially when I was behind Jorge, but I knew that if I was able to lead the race, my pace was good."

Jorge Martin, who retained the championship lead, acknowledged Marquez's superior performance on the day. He said, "I think today to win was really difficult," adding that he had "a good package to fight for the rest of the season".

The victory in Japan was crucial for Marquez, who now sits at 331 points with six rounds remaining. He emphasized the importance of claiming maximum points from the weekend, stating, "It was very important to claim maximum points from the weekend."

Alex Marquez, who was penalized with a double Long Lap penalty for his role in the collision, had a race to forget, crashing out after serving his penalty.

Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, Ai Ogura, and Diogo Moreira also fought for the remaining podium positions, with Moreira securing his first MotoGP Sprint podium and Honda's first Saturday podium since Marquez's third-place finish at Valencia in 2023.

Marquez's win in Japan not only showcased his competitive edge but also highlighted the tight battle for the MotoGP championship, with Martin's lead now reduced to a mere two points.

The race in Japan was a significant moment for Marquez, who is aiming to reclaim the championship title he first won in 2013. His performance in Motegi has put him back within touching distance of the championship lead, after losing ground in the previous race in Austria.
