Iran war live: Yemen fighting intensifies; Tehran says ready for US attacks
Confirmed
In Short: Saudi Arabia confirmed that Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels tried to attack its capital with a ballistic missile, the first targeting of Riyadh since the escalation in fighting with the Tehran-backed rebels that has opened a new front in the Iran war, according to AFP and NPR.

Iran and the US have escalated their conflict, with Tehran hitting oil tankers and firing missiles near the Strait of Hormuz, according to Al Jazeera (Qatar) and Timesofisrael (Israel).
Al Jazeera (Qatar) reported that the US and Iran have exchanged back-and-forth attacks, with Washington targeting three Iranian oil tankers and Tehran hitting tankers and firing a ballistic missile towards US warships patrolling near the Strait of Hormuz.
Timesofisrael (Israel) noted that Chinese entities supplied Iran with satellite imagery of a US Air Force base in Jordan before and after Tehran launched a deadly ballistic missile attack on the facility.
Both publications agree that the conflict is increasingly playing out at sea, with both sides trying to exert control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society said shrapnel from a missile hit a ceremony at a home in Sirik, prompting Tehran to declare the incident a “war crime,” according to People's Daily.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a raft of economic measures to target Tehran’s financial interests across the world, as reported by Al Jazeera (Qatar).
Iran’s state media confirmed the strikes and said Tehran had attacked three US-affiliated vessels in response, as well as three oil tankers travelling through the Strait of Hormuz along an “unauthorised” route, according to People's Daily.
The United States and Iran have escalated tit-for-tat attacks in the past 24 hours, with no diplomatic talks underway to end the conflict, according to Geo.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council head Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran would soon announce details of the proposed zone and indicated that Tehran is taking a more cautious approach to future negotiations with Washington, according to Sundayguardianlive.
Rezaei said Iran was now pursuing diplomacy with guarantees, suggesting that Tehran wants stronger assurances before entering another agreement with the US.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Fox News that it is for the United States to choose whether to end its war in Iran as Tehran does not wish to continue fighting.
Pezeshkian insisted the Houthis do not take direction from Tehran's government, according to AFP.
