SpaceX CEO Elon Musk rebranded the company’s artificial intelligence arm to SpaceXSI following President Donald Trump’s executive order calling for AI to be referred to as 'Super Intelligence.' The move was confirmed in a post on X, where Musk responded to a user's inquiry.

The executive order, titled 'Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,' argues that the new term better reflects the technology’s capabilities. Musk previously endorsed Nick Bostrom’s 2014 book, 'Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies,' which warned of uncontrollable super intelligence.

SpaceXAI was created only a few months ago in July, after SpaceX acquired xAI in a $1.25 trillion deal. Before the acquisition, xAI operated as an independent startup founded by Musk in 2023.

Musk’s decision to rebrand SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI underscores his long-standing view that frontier technology has evolved beyond basic AI. This position aligns with his close relationship with the Trump administration, during which xAI’s Grok was contracted to power certain government work.

The rebranding also highlights Musk’s alignment with federal semantic standards. While Musk did not outline a precise timeline for the transition, the move reflects the growing cooperation between major tech enterprises and federal directives.

In a separate development, Musk disclosed that SpaceX and Tesla are exploring avenues of cooperation with TSMC on the Terafab project. Discussions are ongoing, but no concrete plans have been announced.

President Trump’s directive to replace the term 'artificial intelligence' with 'super intelligence' was officially signed on September 22. Musk’s endorsement of the change was evident in his X post, where he declared that there would be 'no more AI' and that the 'SI' moniker is preferable.

The SpaceXAI account on X had not been renamed as of Sunday, and the company had not responded to a request for comment. The rebrand marks the latest evolution for SpaceX’s tech ecosystem following the integration of core artificial intelligence infrastructure under the corporate umbrella.

While Musk’s decision to rebrand SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI aligns with Trump’s directive, the origins of SpaceXAI’s lawsuit against Apple remain unclear. Musk’s lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI was filed after a tirade by Musk, and the details of the settlement remain confidential.

What this adds

The rebranding of SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI is a direct response to President Trump's executive order, reflecting a broader shift in terminology within the tech industry.

While Musk’s rebranding aligns with Trump’s directive, the legal battle between SpaceXAI and Apple remains unresolved, highlighting the complex interplay between tech companies and regulatory bodies.
