Jagex and Lyrical Animation Announce RuneScape Animated Series

In Short: Jagex and Lyrical Animation are developing an animated series based on the popular game RuneScape.

At RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy announced a new animated series based on RuneScape, a fantasy MMORPG that has been running for 25 years.
Jagex, in partnership with Charlie 'MoistCr1TiKaL' White and Lyrical Animation, aims to expand RuneScape beyond the gaming ecosystem.
White, a longtime member of the RuneScape community with over 25 million followers, expressed his excitement, saying, 'I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it’s one of my favorite IPs ever.
Daniel Dominguez, Creative Director of Lyrical Animation, praised RuneScape's storytelling, noting, 'Runescape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful.
The animated series will be produced by Lyrical Animation alongside White’s Meatier productions, marking a significant step in Jagex's strategy to diversify the RuneScape franchise.
RuneScape has expanded to include RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape Dragonwilds, with over 300 million accounts created and more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue.
The announcement comes as RuneScape prepares to launch RuneScape Reignited on December 2, featuring a Remastered Journey and Adventure Guide, a fresh economy, and brand-new hiscores.
In addition to the animated series, Jagex also revealed the development of a fourth MMO in the RuneScape franchise, further expanding the game's reach.
The event kicked off with the Manchester Video Game Orchestra performing iconic RuneScape themes, setting the stage for the major announcements.
This new animated series is part of Jagex's broader ambition to bring the world of Gielinor to new formats and audiences, beyond the traditional gaming ecosystem.
Background
RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Jagex. Created by Andrew Gower with assistance from his brother Paul Gower, it was first released on 4 January 2001 as a Java-based browser game; the original Java client was later largely replaced by the standalone C++ NXT client in 2016.
