Bishop Vicente Carlos Kiaziku of Angola's Zaire Province has issued a stark warning about the abduction of children in his region, stating that they could be at risk of exploitation, including trafficking, to neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Kiaziku highlighted the serious threat to the dignity and safety of minors, urging collective responsibility to prevent child abduction and trafficking, especially in border regions.
Movement of people has been reported between Angola and the DRC, particularly in the Zaire province where the Diocese of Mbanza Kongo is located, and where important crossing points like Luvo exist.
The bishop noted that the shared land border between Angola and the DRC spans approximately 2,511 kilometers, with about 225 kilometers in Cabinda province and the remainder in mainland Angola, including Zaire province.
Kiaziku also pointed out that abandoned children in the province are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and other dangers, stressing the importance of solidarity to protect them.
