AI Tool Detects Hidden Signs of Aging in DNA
Developing
In Short: Researchers have created an artificial intelligence tool called ChromAgeNet that can detect subtle signs of aging in the three-dimensional structure of DNA within mouse blood stem cells.

In a study published in Aging Cell, ChromAgeNet demonstrated a 77% accuracy rate in distinguishing between young and aged cells based on the spatial features of DNA architecture.
The AI system does not rely on obvious visual differences but instead identifies combinations of spatial features that indicate cellular aging.
The study highlights the potential of ChromAgeNet to detect responses to interventions, although it does not confirm that these interventions restored cell function or rejuvenated them.
In a separate study, researchers found that the usual link between retinal perfusion and vessel architecture was preserved in healthy individuals but disrupted in patients with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment.
The authors noted that these hemodynamic impairments remained significant even after adjusting for age, suggesting they are due to disease-related changes rather than normal aging.
