Nine Arrested in LPU Violence
Confirmed
In Short: Police have also arrested the person who climbed onto the MiG-23UM fighter jet installed outside the university campus during the violence.

Punjab Police have arrested nine individuals, including seven university students and a juvenile, in connection with the violent clashes, vandalism, and arson that erupted on the Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus on September 27 following a viral message.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Naveen Singla, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora and Special Investigation Team (SIT) in-charge Vaneet Ahlawat, detailed the investigation and arrests during a press conference.
According to DIG Singla, the police had initially coordinated with media and students to send an assuring message that the administration stood with them.
However, a section of the crowd suddenly turned violent, pelting stones at police and media personnel, vandalising property, and setting multiple vehicles on fire.
Police teams were then compelled to use minimal force to disperse the violent mob and restore order, refuting claims of police high-handedness.
Police identified and arrested the two outsiders, Gagandeep Singh and Jasmeet Kumar, both from Phagwara, using CCTV footage.
The minor arrested is an LPU student from Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, who was portrayed as a hero on social media.
Four FIRs have been registered in connection with the LPU violence, with three cases related to blocking the highway, setting a police vehicle on fire, and vandalising university property.
What this adds
Police matched footage with university records to identify suspects.
The investigation continues with a Special Investigation Team examining allegations of individuals joining peaceful protests during the day and participating in violence at night.
A social media influencer and former LPU student, Farhat Dev, has been named in the FIR but has not been arrested.
