Google Meet and Microsoft Teams Interoperability Now Available
Confirmed
In Short: The interoperability feature, which was previewed last month, is now generally available for Google Workspace customers using Google Meet hardware that runs on Android or AOSP (Android Open Source Project).

The interoperability feature, which was previewed last month, is now generally available for Google Workspace customers using Google Meet hardware that runs on Android or AOSP (Android Open Source Project).
This means that meeting room hardware equipped with Android-based Google Meet can now join a Microsoft Teams call, and vice versa, simplifying the process for users who frequently switch between the two platforms.
Ryan Roslansky, who was recently promoted to head of Microsoft Teams, is leaving the company after nearly 18 years, including his tenure as CEO of LinkedIn.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted in an internal memo that Roslansky leaves the organization in a strong position, highlighting the work done to integrate product, engineering, and design foundations.
The interoperability feature is specifically designed for dedicated meeting room hardware running Android or AOSP, and does not affect the Google Meet or Microsoft Teams apps on personal devices.
Microsoft has also been addressing recent issues with its products, issuing six emergency patches to fix failures stemming from September's Patch Tuesday.
Microsoft's Surface devices corporate VP, Brett Ostrum, confirmed that the recently announced Surface Pro 12 and 13 with the Snapdragon X2 Plus won't carry the Copilot+ PC logo or name, despite meeting the previous requirements.
Microsoft has been making changes to its AI-first PC hardware branding, removing the Copilot+ PC label from its devices, though the reasons for this change have not been fully explained.
What this adds
The interoperability feature simplifies the process for users who frequently switch between Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, but it does not affect personal devices using the apps.
Microsoft's recent leadership changes and product updates highlight the company's ongoing efforts to integrate and improve its communication and hardware offerings.
Background
Google Meet is a video communication service developed by Google. It is one of two apps that constitute the replacement for Google Hangouts, the other being Google Chat.

What's still developing
- If you’ve ever walked into a meeting room only to realize the call is on Microsoft Teams while the room is set up for Google Meet, you’ll know how unnecessarily complicated something as simple as joining a video call can become.
- Now, the company says the feature is generally available, meaning supported meeting-room hardware can finally start taking advantage of it.
- But in offices where different teams, clients, and companies bounce between Meet and Teams all day, not having to think about which logo is on the meeting invite could make joining a call considerably less frustrating.
- So, if your company primarily uses Meet but a client sends you a Teams invite, you wouldn’t have to reach for a laptop or switch rooms just because everyone happens to be using a different video conferencing service.
- So, this obviously won’t change much if you take all your meetings on your phone or laptop.
- When LinkedIn joined Microsoft, you gave us room to build, and then trusted many of us with a lot more.
- Roslansky’s departure has triggered another leadership shuffle inside Microsoft.
- On the flip side, it also lags behind some of its fierce competitors, like Slack and Microsoft Teams, in terms of the number of features.
- Microsoft acknowledged three days later on September 11 that some customers had been having problems with a range of products.
- IT teams received a boost this week after Microsoft fixed some significant issues with Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Hyper-V and other products.
- “IT administrators who deployed a temporary mitigation through Group Policy do not need to take any action before installing this OOB update,” Microsoft added.
- Just two years ago, Microsoft launched its Copilot+ PC brand to identify AI-first computers with exclusive artificial intelligence features, but that wording is nowhere to be found on recent Microsoft devices or OEM products.
