Flydubai Captain Opens Cockpit Door After Being Stabbed by Co-Pilot

Captain Smit Machchhar of Flydubai recounted the harrowing moments when he was attacked by his co-pilot during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, telling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he knew he had to act to save the passengers aboard the plane.
Machchhar, who has been flying for 17 years and had been a captain for 11 years, managed to open the cockpit door despite multiple stab wounds, allowing passengers and crew members to intervene.
The flight plunged more than 17,000 feet (5,200 meters) two and a half hours into its journey. Machchhar said he realized the aircraft was rapidly losing altitude while he was on the cockpit floor.
The Boeing 737 flight was carrying 174 passengers, almost all of them Israelis, when Machchhar’s Omani co-pilot stabbed him in an apparent attempt to crash the plane.

- The co-pilot of FlyDubai flight 1073, who has not been identified by authorities, was transferred Thursday from Saudi Arabia to the United Arab Emirates for questioning by Israeli, UAE and Saudi officials, an Israeli official confirmed to CBS News on Friday.
