Browns' Verse Declares New Era After Thrilling Win Over Steelers
Confirmed
In Short: Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse declared it a new era for the team after their thrilling 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse declared it a new era for the team after their thrilling 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
The Browns' unexpected success comes as a significant surprise, especially given their poor performance in a blowout loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the season.
The Browns' trio of victories came by a combined 10 points, and each required a game-winning drive in the final five minutes.
Verse's comments came after the Browns edged the Steelers in a dramatic finish, with the game ending on a two-point conversion attempt.
During the game, Verse called out the Steelers for playing dirty and had to be pulled away by teammates more than once.
The Los Angeles Rams drafted Verse 19th overall out of Florida State in 2024, and he won Defensive Rookie of the Year that season.
Now, Verse is a cornerstone for the Cleveland Browns, who received him in a blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett on June 1.
The Browns also received a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a conditional 2029 third-round pick in the trade.
Garrett has barely seen the field due to injury, leaving Verse as the face of a 3-1 team that just knocked off its division rival.
The game was a tense divisional matchup with a chippy, emotional finish, and it was Verse's first time experiencing the rivalry.
Both sides were physical throughout, and Verse was flagged twice for offside penalties, with the second one moving the Steelers' two-point try to the 1-yard line.
Aaron Rodgers sneaked in the tying score late in the game, but the Browns held on for the win.
What this adds
The Browns' victory over the Steelers marks a significant turnaround for the team, with Verse emerging as a key figure in their success.
