128 GOP Lawmakers Call for Federal Probe into Planned Parenthood's Taxpayer Funding
Confirmed
In Short: A coalition of 128 Republican lawmakers is urging the federal government to investigate Planned Parenthood's use of taxpayer funds, citing serious allegations involving federal funding and compliance with federal law.

In a letter to the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the lawmakers requested a thorough review of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and its affiliates, including an examination of the organization's broader funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The lawmakers cited a separate investigation by the Small Business Administration (SBA) into whether Planned Parenthood affiliates received $88 million in pandemic loans illegally.
The lawmakers are also questioning the scientific basis for many pandemic-era policies and challenging the use of aborted fetal tissue in coronavirus research.
In its last fiscal year, Planned Parenthood performed 434,000 abortions while receiving $832 million in taxpayer dollars.
The lawmakers are asking federal officials to examine those allegations and determine whether evidence exists of fraud, waste, abuse, misrepresentation, or other violations affecting federal health programs.
What this adds
The push for an investigation comes as the Small Business Administration (SBA) separately reviews more than $88 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans received by 38 Planned Parenthood affiliates.
The lawmakers' request for a federal probe into Planned Parenthood's taxpayer funding is part of a broader effort to scrutinize the organization's activities and compliance with federal laws and funding requirements.
