Two Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv's South Bridge, Metro and Surface Traffic Suspended
Confirmed
In Short: Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported that two drone strikes hit the South Bridge, causing authorities to suspend metro and surface transport.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported on Telegram that two drone strikes hit the area near the support structure of Kyiv’s South Bridge, leading to the suspension of metro and surface transport across the bridge.
Municipal specialists from Kyivavtoshliakhmist are inspecting the bridge to assess its condition following the strikes.
Unverified footage circulating online reportedly shows fires and debris from the drone strikes near the bridge supports.
According to Klitschko, the type of warhead used in the drone strikes was designed specifically to destroy high-voltage pylons and steel bridge structures, consisting of a 40-kilogram main charge and four strike modules.
Transport infrastructure engineer Anna Miniukova noted that bridges are designed to withstand significant loads and operate under extreme conditions, citing examples such as the Antonivka Bridge in Kherson and the Kerch Bridge in Crimea.
The Kyiv Post could not independently verify the authenticity, timing, or location of the circulated footage and images.
In addition to the drone strikes on the South Bridge, a Russian drone also struck a school building in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district, causing a fire.
Metro trains are currently running only on the underground sections between the Syrets and Vydubychi stations, and between Osokorky and Chervonyi Khutir, as city workers deal with the damage on the South Bridge.
A blast wave from the drone strikes kicked up dust that entered a metro carriage through the ventilation system around 11:30 a.m., but no passengers or crew were injured.
In total, Russia launched 107 drones against Ukraine in the overnight attack.
What this adds
The attack on the South Bridge and the school in Solomianskyi district adds to the ongoing conflict's toll on Kyiv's infrastructure and civilian life.
Background
The attack damaged the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a cultural landmark in the capital, setting its building ablaze.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries, saying attacks on the country's energy infrastructure were contributing to a diesel shortage.
