One sailor was transported to a Norfolk-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while the remaining three injured sailors are being monitored and treated by onboard medical staff.

The Navy did not specify the type of two-seater aircraft involved in the incident, nor did it provide details on the cause of the mishap.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1977, was conducting carrier qualifications in the Atlantic at the time of the incident.

The carrier had recently completed extensive maintenance and modernization work at a shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Buckley noted that most people do not remember the intense experience of ejecting from an aircraft traveling at high speeds.

The Navy stated that carrier crews regularly train for emergencies and unexpected situations during flight operations, enabling a swift and safe response to the incident.
