Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has reversed several of his most controversial statements as his race for a Texas Senate seat tightens.
Talarico previously described himself as a Christian who 'hates Christianity,' said 'God is nonbinary,' and claimed there are six biological sexes, according to Fox News.
In response to criticism, Talarico's campaign spokesperson JT Ennis told Fox News Digital that Talarico agrees with the majority of Texans that America is the greatest country and Texas is the greatest state, and that he supports fighting for a more perfect union.
Talarico also previously called the American flag a 'complicated symbol,' which led the conservative political action committee Lone Star Liberty to label him an 'America-laster.' His campaign later clarified that he believes the flag represents 'freedom, opportunity and hope.
Talarico stated, 'We haven't lived up to the promise of democracy,' indicating a shift in his messaging to align more closely with traditional Democratic values.
Talarico's campaign has also defended his Christianity remark, saying he is a devout Christian criticizing the misuse of Christianity to justify hate, violence, and greed.
