On Tuesday, security forces in the Korag area of Yousmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, neutralized a terrorist in an encounter.
The encounter occurred after security forces launched a joint search operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The Army tweeted that along with other security forces, it launched an operation in the general area of Korag, Yousmarg, in central Kashmir.
Officials identified the slain terrorist as Sulaiman Shah alias ‘Musa’, a most wanted terrorist belonging to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Musa had escaped an encounter in the Yousmarg hills early this month, and his close confidant Yasir was killed in that encounter on September 5.
Security forces had been tracking the movements of Musa and his confidant in the dense forests of Rajouri and Poonch.
Following inputs about their presence in the Surankote area, forces launched a fresh operation ahead of the Buddha Amarnath yatra to Mandi area.
The operation continued for nearly two months, but the terrorists escaped towards Poonch.
Two days later, while the operations were in progress, information came that both terrorists had visited a hut and taken food there.
The security forces on the Kashmir side simultaneously launched search and combing operations, eventually establishing contact with the two terrorists who had been at large since 2021.
