Anthropic's Claude AI services are experiencing widespread issues, affecting logging in and other functionalities. Users are facing difficulties with logging into Claude, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, as reported by Android Authority.

Over on its Claude status page, Anthropic confirmed that it is currently in recovery mode, after identifying issues with elevated error rates across Claude services. The company warned that users who are already signed in should avoid signing out accidentally.

The incident began on September 29, 2026, with errors from 14:00 UTC impacting chats, sign-ins, and Claude Code. By 14:30 UTC, Anthropic had added platform.claude.com to the list of affected services.

Anthropic's incident page first flagged the issue at 14:21 UTC. By 15:00 UTC, the company described a second issue blocking new chats, voice conversations, Claude Code and Cowork sessions, purchases, and file uploads.

Anthropic developer Thariq Shihipar explained that with Claude's latest model, Fable 5, issues are less a problem with the model itself and more a result of the user's own blind spots. Shihipar emphasized the importance of giving Claude context about the user's starting point and creating an implementation plan.

Anthropic recently announced a major update to its Claude AI assistant, integrating Claude Cowork into the main chat interface and adding Claude Docs and Claude Slides. This update allows users to access these tools directly from chat.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has been advocating for a slowdown in AI development over safety concerns. The company is also calling on other AI companies to share metrics related to AI safety.

Anthropic is using its Claude AI model to build the next generation of AI, with Claude now involved in about 90% of the company's research and development.

A US appeals court ruled 2-1 that the Pentagon lawfully labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk, adding another layer of complexity to the company's operations.
