Sandra Hüller's latest film, 'Rose,' premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, where Hüller won the Silver Bear for best lead performance.
The story behind 'Rose' began on Seidl's birthday, when a friend shared a historical anecdote about a woman executed for living as a man 250 years ago.
Seidl, who has been a long-time admirer of Hüller's work, wrote the script in prose, akin to a novel, and sent it to her.
Hüller accepted the challenge and delivered a performance that Seidl describes as a master class in acting with rigor, honesty, physicality, and zero showiness.
Each new episode of 'Rose' will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max and discovery+.
What this adds
The film's premiere and Hüller's award highlight the critical reception and anticipation for 'Rose'.
Background
A rose is either a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears. There are over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars.
What's confirmed
- Cash’s next show is set for September 19 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, according to the list of performance dates on the second slide of the Instagram post.
- Cash, 71, had to push back a few of her upcoming performance dates because of the emergency.
What's still developing
- “Sandra said I should not threaten people, but I have watched her career for the last 20 years and I’ve seen so many prizes taken away from her,” Schleinzer says with a grin.
- Yet it also speaks to the ultimate mastery of Hüller’s portrayal here, which never goes for the easy or obvious choice.
- In a career full of decorated performances, this ranks among Hüller’s very best, a moving, wondrously strange embodiment of a survivor in constant, subtle hiding.
- Below, you can watch the exclusive trailer for the film for a first look.
- “I was really bad in this movie because I was so keen to watch Sandra firsthand — I already had started writing Rose and started stalking her, watching all the things she was ever in, even the tiny television spots she had at the beginning of her career.” He later sent her the script, which was written in prose, more akin to a novel; she jumped at the challenge.
- “Rosanne Cash must postpone her performances due to an unexpected medical emergency. She is recovering under her doctors’ supervision, who have recommended a temporary restriction on travel and performing,” the statement read.
