Walmart Vows No Personalized Pricing With AI
Developing
In Short: Walmart CEO John Furner assures customers the company will not use personal data or AI for personalized pricing.

Walmart CEO John Furner assured customers that the retail giant will not use personal data or artificial intelligence (AI) to personalize prices, emphasizing the company's commitment to 'Every Day Low Prices.
Furner stated in a letter published Friday that Walmart will not set different prices based on a customer's identity or the time of day. He also clarified that the company will not use information shared through its Sparky chatbot to raise prices or hide lower-priced options.
Furner stressed that Walmart associates will continue to oversee pricing, and the company will monitor and test its technology against these commitments. He noted that prices may fluctuate due to changes in the cost of goods or transportation but assured customers that personal information such as income, shopping history, or urgency will not influence pricing.
In an interview on Fox Business' 'Making Money,' LSEG head of consumer research Jharonne Marti discussed consumer perceptions and suggested Walmart's assurances were an overreaction.
Furner emphasized that the relationship Walmart associates have with customers will not be used to charge more, and this principle will extend to AI oversight.
