The city of Yaroslavl is located approximately 1,500 kilometers (900 miles) from Ukraine's border with Russia, while Ulyanovsk is situated around 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) from the border.
The Saratov refinery, which had previously halted operations several times, including after an August strike, was reportedly shut down again after a drone attack on September 11.
According to sources cited by Reuters, the Syzran refinery was shut down on September 15, while the Saratov refinery stopped operating on September 11, following recent Ukrainian drone attacks.
Overnight on September 15, Russia’s Volgograd and Samara oblasts reported explosions and fires at industrial facilities, including the Sebryakovcement plant and the Syzran refinery.
Independent Russian outlet Astra reported that on September 23, drones struck an area near an oil refinery in the city of Ufa, the capital of Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan, citing local residents.
