President of baseball operations Erik Neander expressed his pride in the team's achievement, saying, 'Everything the franchise has been through, to have the Tampa Bay on the chest tonight, the staff, the players for Tampa Bay, all of it, just, it’s really special.
The Rays' triumph is particularly noteworthy given the competitive nature of the AL East. The team has led the division since June 27 and has spent 128 days in first place, despite facing challenges such as the Yankees' Aaron Judge missing 66 games due to injury.
Tampa Bay's latest division title is the earliest in team history, surpassing their 2021 achievement by three days. The Rays have also won division titles in 2020, 2010, and 2008, with the latter year marking their first winning season and a World Series appearance.
Currently, the Rays are two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in the majors, putting them in a strong position for home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
The Rays' journey to the top of the division included periods where they lost the lead but regained it, such as after an 8-5 win over the Chicago White Sox on April 14 and a 4-1 win at Boston on May 10.
