Essex cricketer Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape and will appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October.
Das was arrested on 27 August 2023 following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton in March 2024. He was subsequently charged on 23 July 2024.
Das, who made his debut for Essex in 2020, has been suspended from the club since his arrest on 29 August 2023, two days after his last appearance for the team in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex.
The 24-year-old has played 62 professional games for Essex, including nine first-class appearances, 29 games in 50-over cricket, and 24 matches in T20s.
Essex confirmed that they are unable to make further comment as legal proceedings are ongoing.
Das, born in Leytonstone and now residing in Waltham Forest, was handed a new contract by Essex in November 2023 and has been a regular for the Essex 2nd XI and club side Wanstead & Snaresbrook in the first half of this season.
Rape carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
