Buffalo 8 Distribution has acquired the home entertainment rights to Werner Herzog's documentary 'Ghost Elephants,' Variety reported. The deal was negotiated at the Toronto Film Festival market and pairs Buffalo 8 with Sobey Road Entertainment for the film's home entertainment rollout.
Ghost Elephants' premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2025 and went on to screen at the Telluride Film Festival, AFI Fest, and IDFA. The documentary also earned Herzog a 2026 Emmy nomination for outstanding narrator.
The film is produced by Herzog and Ariel Leon Isacovitch and is a production of National Geographic Documentary Films, Sobey Road Entertainment, and Skellig Rock, Inc.
Nikki Stier Justice, head of distribution at Buffalo 8, praised Herzog's impact on documentary cinema, stating, 'Few filmmakers have shaped documentary cinema like Werner Herzog.
